According to the Indonesian election commission, KPU, the counting of votes will be held on Thursday July 9, 2014, in line with the election in Indonesia.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian embassy in Singapore announced that the 2014 Indonesian presidential election will be held on Sunday July 6, 2014, to allow voters to exercise their franchise during their day off.

"This move was taken to increase the Indonesian peoples participation in the election, as majority of the Indonesians in Singapore are professionals, students, sailors, and domestic workers who have a day off on Sunday," as stated by the Embassys press release received here on Thursday.

According to the Indonesian election commission, KPU, the counting of votes will be held on Thursday July 9, 2014, in line with the election in Indonesia.

The Indonesian embassy to Singapore will provide 36 ballots to accommodate the large number of Indonesian voters.

Singapore Overseas Election Committee Chairman Mirza Nurhidayat said that the eligible voters list in Singapore was 108,341 and 17,094 have confirmed to vote by mail.

To assist the voters in traveling to the embassy, the Indonesian embassy will provide shuttle bus from nearby MRT stations, namely Redhil and Tanjong Katong.

Mirza said that the Singapore election committee is ready to hold the presidential election.

Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Andri Hadi had expressed his appreciation to the Singapore election committee and other task forces in preparing for the democratic event.

"Appreciation also goes to the Central Election Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Committee (Bawaslu) who have been providing guidance and supervision during the election," Andri Hadi said.(*)
