Karawang, West Java (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Saturday raided the office rooms of the regent of Karawang and other officials of the district administration looking for document related to the issuance of land use approval in the city.

The raid followed the arrest of Regent, Ade Swara, on charge of extortion in issuing the license.

Ade was charged with abusing his power extorting money for the approval of the use of the land for commercial purpose.

The other rooms include the office of Regional Development Planning Board and Integrated License in Karawang.

KPK also raided the official residence of the regent in the complex of the district administration and his private house in the sub-district of Cilamaya.

On Friday, July 18, KPK named the regent and his wife, Nurlatifah, as suspects on charge of corruption.

On Thursday the anti graft agency arrested five suspects including a brother of the regent.

"The five were arrested in two separate places on Thursday - at the house of District Head Ade Swara and at a shopping center," KPK spokesman Johan Budi said here on Friday.

Two were arrested at the house of the district head including a brother of the district head, and the other three at a shopping mall in the city of Karawang, Johan said.

KPK confiscated evidence in the form of cash in US dollar worth billions of rupiahs, he said.
