Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was the first to congratulate the newly elected President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla, noted a spokesman.

"President Yudhoyono and Vice President Boediono have congratulated Jokowi and Kalla on their election victory as the next president and vice president of Indonesia," Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-Jusuf Kalla (JK) teams spokesman Anies Baswedan stated here on Wednesday.

He noted that the Jokowi-JK pairs victory by garnering 53.1 percent of the 1,333,574,277 total votes has prompted numerous parties to congratulate them.

"President Yudhoyono was the first to call Jokowi to congratulate him soon after the General Elections Commission (KPU) announced the victory of Jokowi and Kalla," Anies remarked.

Meanwhile, vice presidential spokesman Yopie Hidayat noted here on Wednesday that Vice President Boediono has also congratulated Jokowi and Kalla.

"The vice president has just had a telephonic conversation with the two winners, congratulating them as the president and vice president for the next five years," Yopie Hidayat noted.

Boediono offered cooperation in preparing the process of transfer of power in October, 2014, Yopie added.

"This is the victory of the Indonesian people who have succeeded in carrying out the general election smoothly and peacefully," he quoted the vice president as saying.

On Tuesday night, the Election Commission announced Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla as the elected president and vice president for the 2014-2019 period.

Jokowi, the Jakarta governor and Jusuf Kalla, the former vice president, garnered 53.15 percent or 70,997,833 of the 133,574,277 total valid votes to defeat the rival pair of retired army general, Prabowo Subianto, and former coordinating minister for economy, Hatta Rajasa.

During the final recapitulation of votes on Tuesday night, Prabowo announced that he rejected the process, alleging that the Election Commission was unfair.(*)
