Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Officials of the National Police (Polri) praised the publics participation in maintaining order during the 2014 presidential election.

"General Election Commission (KPU) recapitulation and the announcement of the results of the July 9 presidential election on Tuesday night took place in a peaceful atmosphere," National Police Spokesman Brig. Gen Boy Rafli Amar said here on Wednesday.

Therefore, he added, Polri extended its gratitude and appreciation to the public that supported the peaceful process of the presidential election.

He also expressed his hope that the public would continue to support the police in maintaining peace and order until the inauguration of the newly elected president and vice president in October 2014.

Asked about information posted on social media and the internet that the results of the ballot counts came from Polri, Boy said such stories were untrue.

"Never did the Police release any data on the ballot count. The information on social media is not true and misleading," he noted.

According to Boy, data recorded by the police officials at the ballot stations was not used in the recapitulation by the Election Commission.(*)
