The act was despicable and insulted the judiciary and Unitary State Republic of Indonesia."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) has affirmed that the kidnapping threat to commissioners by Gerindra Jakarta Regional Representative Council (DPD) Chairman Muhammad Taufik undermined the legal process related to the election dispute hearing sessions.

"While we are working towards implementing our constitutional duties by providing the legal description of the election dispute, there are people who intimidate the KPU with kidnapping threats. It is an insult to law enforcement," KPU Commissioner Ida Budhiati emphasized here on Monday.

He remarked that clarification provided through answers to the applicant in the Constitutional Court is one of the obligations of the KPU to account for the process and the results of the general election.

"Our implementation task is the constitutional order that as the defendant, we are granted the same rights under the law to maintain the decision or give an explanation," she emphasized.

Therefore, the Commission submitted the case to the realm of the law by reporting Muhammad Taufik, who was also a former chairman of KPU Jakarta, to the National Polices detective unit, Bareskrim, on Monday morning (Aug 11).

In some demonstrations, Muhammad Taufik often used provocative words to abduct the KPU commissioners due to incompetence in carrying out their duties as organizers of the elections.

Leader of the KPUs advocate team, Adnan Buyung Nasution, stated that the actions taken by Muhammad Taufik cannot be allowed as they were constantly communicated to the public, even on television.

"Muhammad Taufik openly made threats via a television broadcast. Such cases have been officially reported to the Police Headquarters. The act was despicable and insulted the judiciary and Unitary State Republic of Indonesia," he stressed.
