Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta composite index (JCI) rose slightly by 0.04 percent on Thursday to follow the regional trend.

The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) opened 2.20 points higher at 5,170.47 points with index of 45 most liquid stocks gained 0.06 percent to 876.87 points.

"The market players are still buying shares driving the JCI to a positive area to follow the regional trend," chief researcher of Trust Securities Reza Priyambada said.

Reza said market expectation that US economic condition would improve as widely predicted gave positive sentiment to the global market including BEI.

Samuel Sekuritas analyst Aiza said the rise of JCI on Thursday morning trade was in response to rupiah strengthening .

Rupiah gained against the US dollar trading at the level of 11,654 per dollar from the previous level of 11,693.

He said coal shares are predicted to gain with potential cut in Chinese coal production.

China cut its coal production on shrinking price of the commodity.

Regional markets such as Hang Seng recorded a decline in index but Nikkei and Straits Times posted an increase.(*)
