Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) questions four lawmakers from Commission VIII as witnesses in the investigation of alleged corruption involving the handling of Hajj funds at the Religious Affairs Ministry during the 2012-2013 period.

"I am being questioned for Suryadharma Ali (former Religious Affairs Minister)," stated Jazuli Juwaini, the lawmaker from the Prosperous and Justice Party (PKS), while arriving at the KPK building in Central Jakarta, Monday.

Former director general of Hajj and Umra from the Religious Affairs Ministry Anggito Abimanyu is another witness who is being questioned by the KPK on Monday.

Last May, former religious affairs minister Suryadharma Ali was named a suspect in a graft case related to the funding of the 2012-2013 Hajj pilgrimage program.

KPK Deputy Chairman Zukarnain noted that the religious affairs minister had been named as a suspect in connection with the 2012-2013 Hajj pilgrimage program.

It is related to all activities of the Hajj pilgrimage, including accommodation, catering, transportation, and others, he stated while explaining about the activities in the Hajj pilgrimage program.

"There were officials who went for the pilgrimage using the Hajj funds, while they should have paid for their pilgrimage by themselves," Zulkarnain added.
