Mataram, W Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - Indonesia will organize the 22nd Asian Sport Climbing Championship, which will be held at Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara, on October 1-3, 2014.

"We have been preparing for the event since the Indonesian Sport Climbing Federation (FPTI) chose West Nusa Tenggara as the venue," said West Nusa Tenggaras FPTI chairman Fauji Yoyok in Mataram on Tuesday.

According to Fauji, West Nusa Tenggara was chosen because its natural and artificial sport climbing facilities were in line with international standards.

The 2014 Asian Sport Climbing Championship will be participated by 25 Asian countries, and the contest will be held in three climbing classes--boulder, speed, and lead.

Fauji noted that two athletes, Joni Satria and Azhar, from West Nusa Tenggara will participate in the speed and lead classes.

"They will join the Indonesian national team," he added.

Fauji expressed hope that Indonesia will not only succeed as a host, but also bag some gold medals.

"Moreover, this will be the first international sport event in West Nusa Tenggara, so it will be a good promotion for tourism. Hopefully, the local government will fully support the event," he added.

Held every year under the auspices of the International Federation of Sport Climbing, the 2013 Asian Sport Climbing Championship was held in Tehran, Iran.
