Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President-elect Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said he agreed with suggestion to switch subsidy on oil fuels (BBM) over to the farm sector.

"I am pleased with the suggestion by farmers to raise fuel price," Jokowi told a national meeting here on Thursday held by the National Secretariat of "Jokowi Farm" that groups his sympathizers among farmers.

The subsidy could be used for seeds, fertilizers, to build irrigation and micro businesses in rural areas, he said expressing pleasure especially as the suggestion came from farmers.

Currently, 71 percent of the subsidy on fuel is wasted by car owners more for pleasure instead of productive activities, he said.

He said his governments policy in the farm sector would be based on the farmers needs not only on profit making projects.

Chairman of the presidium of the national secretariat of Indonesian Farm Henry Saragih said the meeting of the "Jokowi Farm national secretariat would formulate a number of recommendations on agricultural development to be proposed to the Jokowi government.

Henry said the name of National Secretariat of Kokowi Farm would be changed with Farm Deliberation Body as a forum for farmers to issue ideas and exchange views.
