Jember, E.Java (ANTARA News) - A team from South Africa has participated in the 2014 Jember Open Marching Band Competition, which is being organized by the Jember administration, East Java, on September 5-7.

Organizer Tri Basuki said here on Friday that 35 teams have participated from various regions in Indonesia and a number of countries.

"Of the 35 teams, five are from overseas--one from South Africa and two each from Malaysia and Thailand," Tri noted.

The Indonesian participants are from Aceh, Bali, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Tangerang, Bekasi, Rembang (Central Java), Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Gresik, Malang (East Java), and host Jember.

According to Tri, the theme of the competition is Friendship of the World.

It is expected that through the event relationship between Indonesia, especially Jember, and people across the world can be improved.

This is the third marching band competition being held.

He explained that the marching band teams were judged by a group of professionals and competent people in the field of marching band.

"The panel consists of 13 judges, including two from Japan, four from Thailand, one from Malaysia, and six from Indonesia," Tri said.

He hoped that the international competition could make Jember the center of worlds attention in the field of marching band, so as to improve tourism sectors.
