Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission Bambang Widjojanto assessed that the procurement of Mercedes-Benz as operational vehicles for ministers under Jokowis government was not appropriate.

"I understand that the Mercedes-Benz cars are prestigious and should not be improperly used as operational vehicles," Bambang Widjojanto stated here on Wednesday.

According to him, a minister should be devoted to the prosperity of the poor. If the honor of a position is understood as a whole, the ministers who receive extravagant facility should consider it as an insult to common sense.

He said that the investment on extravagant facilities should be diverted to the prosperity of poor people.

"The honor of a position is not determined by having an official car," he noted.

Previously, Jokowi had regretted the purchase of new Mercedes-Benz for his ministers.

He preferred to use the previous official Toyota Crown Royal Saloon cars.

If the procurement of new vehicles is stopped, it will save the state budget.

On August 28, 2014, Ministry of the State Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia announced PT Mercedes-Benz Indonesia as the winner of tender for the procurement of vehicles for ministers/officials of Jokowis government. The procurement was estimated at Rp91.94 billion.
