JAKARTA, Sept 20, 2014 - (ANTARA) - In addition to exhibiting latest vehicles and technologies, accessories and other automotive related products, Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2014 also serves great attention to social activities. IIMS' social activities reflect the committee's commitment in providing a positive impact from the organization of IIMS, as well as the effort to give the best to the community.

IIMS' social activities were already conducted before the official opening of the exhibition, or on August to be precise. One of the activities was Student Visit to Assembly Plants, where students were invited to visit sole agents' manufacturing facilities. Participating sole agents (APM) in this activity were Suzuki, Nissan, Daihatsu, and Mercedes-Benz. In each facility, students received first-hand explanation on the working process in the facility. The committee hopes the experience gained from the activity will enable students to absorb new knowledge and understanding regarding automotive industry and motivate them to be part of the country's automotive industry. The students participating for this activity were students from several schools in Jakarta.

Besides pre-event activity, IIMS 2014 social commitment is also conducted during and throughout the exhibition such as Student Day. Student Day is visitation from several schools, public schools, vocational schools, and international schools, in Jabodetabek area to the venue of IIMS 2014. The visitations are intended to provide valuable opportunity to students and the disabled to witness the development of the country's automotive industry.

One of social activities that offer direct impact to the effort of improving education in Indonesia is engine donation and book donation. Through engine donation to vocational school majoring in engineering, IIMS provides the opportunity to practice what they learn at school and applied the knowledge using the engine. Meanwhile, the book donation activity shows the committee's efforts in emphasizing the importance of education, particularly early-childhood education.

IIMS also invites the community to take an active role in the book donation activity by donating books to several drop boxes provided at two major malls in Jakarta, namely Tamini Square and Mall Artha Gading. In addition, the committee also placed several drop boxes at 6 Gramedia bookstore branches namely Gramedia Matraman, Gramedia Kelapa Gading, Gramedia Grand Indonesia, Gramedia Central Park, Gramedia Pondok Indah, and Gramedia Depok.

"All of the books that we manage to collect from this activity will be donated to Yayasan Seribu Satu Buku (The Thousand and One Books Foundation) and Yayasan Lebah Buku (Bee Book Foundation). This is our small contribution toward the effort to improving education in Indonesia," said Abiyoso Wietono, Automotive Division Manager, Dyandra Promosindo. He added that IIMS will consistently carry out its social activities as part of the effort to educating the people of the nation.

Lively Weekend at IIMS 2014

The committee has anticipated an increase of visitors that will swarm the venue in the first weekend of IIMS 2014. For that reason, the committee has prepared several top programs for IIMS' loyal visitors. Programs offered to visitors, among others, are Subaru All Wheels Drive Challenge, Subaru Palm Challenge, and Test Drive. All of these programs take place at the outdoor and loading area of JIExpo, Kemayoran.

Subaru All Wheels Drive Challenge that takes place at the outdoor area of Hall C is a new program in this year's exhibition that offers visitors the chance to experience the sensation to feel extreme hurdles on Subaru Forrester 2.0 Xi and Subaru 2.0.i. There are five obstacles in this drive challenge namely Slip Rollers, Cross Rollers, Cell Fits and two most extreme challenges, the Side Ramps where the vehicle will pass the obstacle while leaning 40 degree, and X Mode, where one tire is on the road while the remaining three are in the mud. As of yesterday, there were 150 visitors who took part in this challenge.

Meanwhile, Subaru Palm Challenge at the outdoor area is an endurance challenge for visitors to touch Subaru car. This challenge will select 10 finalists that will be picked to participate in Palm Challenge - Asian leg at Singapore, and enjoy the time with family in Singapore. The winner of Palm Challenge - Asian leg will win 1 unit of Subaru XV STI.

The committee also offers a Test Drive program that provides visitors the opportunity to feel the performance of their dream vehicles. The program takes place at the outdoor area of the Trade Center Building or near the main entrance of JIExpo, Kemayoran.

Based on the experience of previous years, on weekends visitors tend to come to the exhibition area with their families. For their comfort, the committee has prepared some facilities such as free wheelchair and strollers. This year, the committee has prepared 6 wheelchairs and 16 strollers that can be used by visitors for free during the exhibition. The service can be found near the main entrance of the Trade Center Building. The committee also set up Kids Area and Nursery Room at Hall B.
