New York (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono during his speech at the United States Military Academy in West Point on Tuesday called on the world to adopt a comprehensive approach in eradicating the radical Islamic State (IS) organization.

"With the growing complexity of conflicts around the world, we have learnt that solely relying on the use of military power will not improve the situation. In the case of Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS), I believe multiple approaches are needed," Yudhoyono stated while addressing one thousand cadets at the West Point Military Academy.

The president noted that ISIS may be defeated using military forces, but the world needs to ensure that the movement will not be spread among the future generations.

"This is not only the responsibility of the military forces but also the police, diplomats, religious figures, and civilians. Indonesia, for instance, has conducted de-radicalization programs by engaging religious figures to fight extremism," Yudhoyono emphasized.

Earlier, Russian news agency Ria Novosti said that for the first time, the Iraqi army has used the Russian anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) system, Kornet and has destroyed five IS armored vehicles in the central province of Diyala, the Alsumaria TV channel reported on Monday.

"The Russian anti-tank system was first used by the Iraqi army in the province of Diyala [50 kilometers east of the city of Baqubah] where five armored vehicles with gunmen were destroyed," an unnamed representative of the Iraqi security forces informed the channel.

According to him, three squadrons of the Iraqi army have been trained to use the Russian anti-tank system.

"The Russian Kornet system has demonstrated very high precision in destroying targets," claimed the Iraqi military man.

According to the channel, the Russian ATGM system, Kornet was ordered by the Iraqi government to improve the efficiency of its army in the fight against extremist armed groups.

The IS, also known as the ISIS or Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), has been raging a war against the Syrian government since 2012. In June 2014, it launched an offensive in Iraq seizing territories in both countries and proclaiming an Islamic caliphate over its conquered land.

The jihadist group has massacred thousands of Shiites, Christians, and Yazidis and forced thousands of people to flee territories under its control.(*)
