Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President and CEO of Toshiba Corporation Hisao Tanaka said Toshiba plans to invest up to US$1 billion in southeast Asia in the next five years.

"This would be one of our contributions to growing and expanding southeast Asia," Tanaka said here on Wednesday.

He said he chose Southeast Asia as a place for big investment by Toshiba as Toshiba already decided to have production centers in the region.

"Most likely we will invest much in the energy and electric sectors ," he said, adding southeast Asia especially Indonesia is important for Toshibas business expansion.

"We have carefully rearrange our television manufacturing business in the past several years to be focused in southeast Asia especially in Indonesia," he said.

He said southeast Asia including Indonesia is a dynamic region and is seeking rapid move forward .

He said Toshiba wants to utilize the qualities the region including Indonesia has as a production base in Asia.(*)
