Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Thousands of people congregated at Jakartas Thamrin and Sudirman streets here on Monday noon to catch a glimpse of the newly inaugurated President Joko Widodos (Jokowi) and Vice Presidents procession for the first time.

Thousands of people have gathered on the main streets, particularly near the Hotel Indonesia roundabout, since morning. In the meantime, the march itself is scheduled to start at around 1:00 p.m. West Indonesian Time. The streets of Thamrin and Sudirman have been closed since Monday morning.

As of now, the crowds continue to swell at Thamrin and Sudirman streets, despite the hot weather conditions in Jakarta.

"I do not mind waiting in this heat because I want to see President Jokowi," noted Irma, a local resident.

In the meantime, Andi, another local resident, said he was amazed to see the large number of people who have enthusiastically gathered to follow the Mondays march.

"This is a new chapter in Indonesias history. I hope Indonesia will become better under the leadership of the new president," he added.
