Jakarta (ANTARA News) - As part of the international community, Indonesia will continue to implement a free and active foreign policy, according to the newly-inaugurated president, Joko Widodo.

"As the third largest democracy with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia will continue to practice free and active foreign diplomacy in accordance with the principles of freedom, peace and social justice," Jokowi, as the president is better known, said in his inaugural address.

Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla were sworn in as the president and vice president, respectively, of Indonesia on Monday before the plenary meeting of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR).

The president explained that implementing a free and active foreign policy was a national concern, which is required to create world order based on independence, peace and social justice.

"We want to be known among other independent nations with dignity and pride. We want to build our own civilization; we want to become a creative nation," he remarked.

Moreover, Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa stated that he was confident that President Jokowi had his own vision for Indonesias foreign policy.

"I am sure Jokowi has his own concerns regarding Indonesias foreign policy, but, in principle, he said that the government would work hard to make Indonesia a great nation," Marty noted.(*)
