Two horse-drawn carriages decked in white and red flowers and cloth wraps carried Jokowi, JK, and their wives from the HI roundabout to the Merdeka Palace.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Jusuf Kalla (JK), the new President and Vice-President, along with their wives rode horse-drawn carriages from the Hotel Indonesia (HI) roundabout to the Merdeka Palace here on Monday.

Jokowi and wife Iriana Widodo and JK with his wife Mufidah Kalla, and their entourage arrived at the HI roundabout around 1.30 p.m. local time, following the presidential inauguration organized by the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR).

Joko Widodo was inaugurated as Indonesias seventh president and M. Jusuf Kalla as his deputy at the plenary session of the MPR chaired by Speaker Zulkifli Hasan here on Monday morning.

The new president and vice-president took the oaths of office in the presence of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Indonesias sixth president, two former presidents: B.J. Habibie and Megawati Sukarnoputri, and several other dignitaries.

While Jokowi and JK travelled in the first carriage, the second one carried Iriana and Mufidah.

On their way to the Merdeka Palace, Jokowi and JK were on their feet throughout and waved at the people.

Meanwhile, thousands of residents and volunteers followed Jokowi and JK to the palace, while shouting the name of their new leader.

Several residents and volunteers approached the carriages to shake hands with Jokowi and JK.

Jokowi and JK smiled and waved to the people who had gathered along the Jalan Thamrin (Thamrin street) to Jalan Merdeka Barat.

The carriages arrived at the Merdeka Palace at 2.15 p.m.(*)
