There is still much to do by government to improve the competitiveness of the Indonesian people before the AEC is fully implemented.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia is not yet ready to compete in a free market when the Asean Economic Community is implemented in 2015, the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) said.

Indonesia is not yet fully prepared to face AEC, General chairman of the Jakarta chapter of Kadin Eddy Kuntadi said here on Friday.

"There is still much to do by government to improve the competitiveness of the Indonesian people before the AEC is fully implemented," Eddy said.

He said the weak competitiveness of the Indonesian people would be the main problem for the country in facing AEC.

The country would likely suffer greatly from losses in competition in work, trade and knowledge , he said.

He said the government has been too slow in developing a number of vital sectors that keep the country lagging behind.

He blamed lack of coordination between the government agencies including ministries in the process of preparation.

Lack of coordination is caused by egotism that still prevails over many of the government officials, he said.

AEC would be implemented on Dec. 31, 2015 delayed from earlier schedule of January, 2015.

Under the AEC, professional workers would be free to find jobs in any member countries of the regional grouping.(*)
