Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) accompanied by First Lady Iriana arrived at the Soewondo Air Force Base on Wednesday morning for a one-day working visit to the province of North Sumatra.

After taking off from the Halim Air Force Base at 7:15 a.m. local time, the presidential plane landed at 9:45 a.m. local time.

The president and his entourage are scheduled to visit Kabanjahe Karo to get a firsthand look at the facilities provided to the refugees of the Mt. Sinabung eruption.

On his arrival, the president was greeted by North Sumatra Governor Gatot Pudjo Nugroho and several local officers. The president was accompanied by Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa.

The working visit to the region was the first of its kind for President Joko Widodo after his inauguration on October 20, 2014.

This was also the first time that the president and first lady used the presidential plane.

The president is scheduled to return to Jakarta on Wednesday night.
