Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Some one thousand members of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) staged a rally outside the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) building here on Monday to protest against the inauguration of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama as Jakarta governor.

The FPI members arrived at around 10:30 a.m. local time, at the DPRD building compound after marching two kilometers from the Hotel Indonesia (HI) roundabout, according to an Antara journalist.

Fifteen minutes after arriving at the scene, 30 FPI members were allowed to meet the local legislators at the building.

Basuki was holding a meeting at the City Hall while the FPI members staged the rally.

Some of the FPI members delivered speeches and brief religious sermons while their representatives were waiting for the local legislators at the DPRD building.

Hundreds of security personnel were deployed to secure the rally.
