Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesia National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) is preparing a map of those Jakarta areas that are prone to floods during the rainy season.

Basarnas needed such a map for assigning tasks, supervision, and flood victim evacuation, M Yusuf Latif, a Basarnas spokesman, said.

Based on this map, Basarnas provided material assistance, such as rubber boats and helicopters needed in case of flooding, he added.

The agency's officials have also reminded those living in the countrys regions, including Jakarta, which are prone to floods and landslides, to intensify their alertness now that the rainy season has begun.

In Jakarta, floods were reported to have hit Kampung Pulo, East Jakarta, over the past three days, rising to between 30 cm and two meters.

Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama was quoted as saying by the media that he was optimistic that Jakarta would be flooded for no longer than one day.

"So far, its okay. Some engines are still broken and have not been fixed yet, but cleaning up rivers and dredging have been done. Therefore, flooding now will be better than last year. We will not be flooded for more than one day," he said.

The National Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency(BMKG) predicted that the peak rainy season will occur in December, January and February.

Indonesia began to experience its rainy season this November. Floods have also been reported in Aceh, West Sumatra and Jakarta.

In West Sumatra, one villager was killed and at least 841 houses were flooded in Silaut Sub-District, South Pesisir District, since Thursday night, following incessant rains that lashed the area.

Head of the local disaster mitigation offices Emergency and Logistics Section Medi Yuherman said the inundated houses were located in the villages of Sungai Sirah, Sungai Serik, Sungai Pulai, Talang Binjai, Pasir Binjai, and Air Hitam.

The flooding has affected 316 families in Air Hitam, 210 families in Sungai Serik, 200 families in Sungai Pulai, 50 families in Pasir Binjai, 43 families in Sungai Sirah, and 22 families in Talang Binjai, according to Yuherman.
