Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) swore in National Democratic Party (Nasdem) politician HM Prasetyo as the new attorney general at the State Palace here on Thursday.

HM Prasetyo, who was born in Tuban, East Java, on May 9, 1947, was named attorney general based on Presidential Decree Number 131/2014 signed by the President on Thursday morning.

HM Prasetyo is not a newcomer in the office as he was the deputy attorney general for general crimes in 2005 to 2006.

He has replaced Basrief Arief whose term ended following the end of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyonos term.

Deputy attorney general Andhi Nirwanto had been the acting attorney general until Prasetyos appointment.
