Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Transportation Office of the Jakarta Provincial Administration and public transportation operators have officially raised the fares of non-economy transportation means by Rp1,500, following the subsidized fuel price hikes.

Head of the Transportation Office of Jakarta Muhammad Akbar said here on Friday that the new fare increases applied to non-economy transportation means such as taxis, the Integrated Bus Network (APTB) feeder system, the Integrated City Busway (BKTB), and the Kopaja AC

"The fares of regular, non-economy modes of transportation were raised last week. Different from economy transportation, the increase in the fares of non-economy transportation means did not require a regulation from the governor," Akbar stated.

When the new fares come into effect, Kopaja AC tariffs will be hiked from Rp5,000 to Rp6,500, while passengers of APTB buses will be charged Rp10,000 from the earlier tariff of Rp8,500.

According to the revised fares, basic fares for taxis will now be Rp8,500 from the earlier cost of Rp7,000.

"The upper limit of taxi fares will be Rp8,500 and Rp7,500 will be the lower limit. Waiting charges will be Rp55,000 per hour," Head of Land Transportation of Jakarta Transportation Office Emanuel Kristanto noted.

The distance rate was raised to Rp4,600 per kilometer as the upper limit fare and Rp4,000 as the lower one.

Earlier, taxi fares were proposed to be raised to Rp13,000, but as the charge was considered too high for the public, it was lowered to Rp11,000, Kristanto pointed out.

"That tariff, however, was still considered too high as the subsidized fuel price was only raised by Rp2,000. Then, Rp8,500 was agreed upon as the revised rate," Kristanto affirmed.(*)
