Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko (Jokowi) Widodo and Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Agus Martowardojo met here on Tuesday to discuss the synchronization of policy between the government and the central bank.

"This is the first formal coordination meeting between the president and BI governor to discuss the situation of the rupiah, synchronization of the monetary policy and fiscal between the government and the central bank," Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto stated at the Presidential Palace complex here on Tuesday.

He noted that during the past few weeks, the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar has declined.

President Jokowi had emphasized on numerous earlier occasions that the foundation of the national economy was strong enough, so the fluctuation in the rupiah should serve as an opportunity to boost the competitiveness of Indonesian export products.(*)
