Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian State Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno appointed Lenny Sugihat as the new president director of the state-owned Logistics Agency (Bulog) on Wednesday, emphasizing that she faces major challenges in developing the company in the future.

She stated that the company is expected to help in stabilizing the prices for farmers and the community while meeting its obligation to generate profit.

"Special managerial expertise is needed as Bulog has to buy rice from farmers at a reasonable price, maintain stable market prices, while at the same time, continue to make profit to survive with regard to supporting the food self-sufficiency program," she remarked at her office.

Rini affirmed that the institution must be able to communicate with farmers, so that it can meet their expectations by offering a reasonable price for their produce.

This means Bulog must buy agricultural produce at a profitable price from farmers to ensure production certainty, she explained.

"This is Bulogs responsibility to calculate the right price for the farmers," she added.

She pointed out that Bulog also has the responsibility of maintaining the price stability of staple foods such as rice, corn, soybean, sugar, shallots, chili, and beef for the consumers.

She affirmed that although the government did not set a profit target, she hoped that the company would continue to generate adequate earnings to ensure its sustainability.

"There is no profit target but in order to survive, the company certainly must generate earnings to pay wages, renovate warehouses, or other development projects," she noted.

Lenny Sugihat is the former director of Bank Rakyat Indonesia for credit risk control. She replaces Budi Purwanto who was Bulogs acting president director since November 24, 2014.
