Tunis (ANTARA News/KUNA-0ANA) - Tunisias Interior Ministry said on Sunday that border police have managed to thwart the smuggling of an "extremely large" shipment of narcotics in the northeastern tourist seaside town of Hammamet.

Police arrested three people who were allegedly attempting to smuggle the drugs into Tunisia from a European country, said a ministry spokesperson, without revealing the destination in question.

Border police became aware of the operation, which involved the smuggling of three tonnes of narcotics on board a cruise ship, after receiving intelligence from Interpol.

Neither the type nor classification of the narcotics was revealed. (*)
