Pangakalan Bun, Central Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Commander of the Indonesian Defense Forces General Moeldoko has received the black box of AirAsia QZ8501, which was recovered on Monday morning.

General Moeldoko, accompanied by chief of the National Committee for Transportation Safety (KNKT) Tatang Kurniadi, flew back by helicopter minutes after his arrival at Pangkalan Bun to collect the black box from KRI Banda Aceh.

According to the KNKT team at the Iskandar air base in Pangkalan Bun, the flight data recorder had been retrieved by a join team of divers and moved to KN Jadayat. It was further shifted to KRI Banda Aceh before being flown to the Iskandar air base and later to Jakarta.

Earlier, Chief of the Indonesia Search and Rescue Agency FH Bambang Soelistyo said the flight data recorder of AirAsiaQZ8501 was retrieved at 7.11 a.m. on Monday.

He noted the FDR was retrieved by a team of divers from the Indonesia Navy comprising Captain Syaiful, Adjutant Bambang, Second Sergeant Rajab, and Second Corporal Edi Susilo.

According to KNKT, the FDR carries a registry number, PN-2100-4043-02, and a serial number, SN-000556583.

A flight data recorder is a device that records flight conditions such as the air speed, position, and altitude of an aircraft.

A cockpit voice recorder is a device that records radio transmissions, in-cockpit discussions, and engine conditions.

He revealed that a team has still been searching for the whereabouts of the cockpit voice recorder in search areas one to four and the additional priority area II in the Karimata Strait waters.

"We are still searching for the Cockpit Voice Recorder and more bodies of passengers," he added.

So far, 48 bodies have been recovered of the total 162 people who were aboard the plane that crashed in the Java Sea en route from Surabaya in East Java to Singapore on December 28.
