Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Sri Lankas Ambassador to Indonesia Anoja Wijeyesekera supports Indonesia in endorsing the Asia-Africa Conferences principles that are considered important in settling international disputes.

"The principles of the Bandung Conference have to be reaffirmed and proclaimed again in the context of the twenty-first century," Anoja stated here on Tuesday.

According to the ambassador, several principles are considered important to numerous countries such as becoming non-aligned nations, respecting each others independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty along with the principle of non-interference in the affairs of other countries.

Anoja emphasized that the principle of non-interference is of paramount importance and should be implemented by the international community in the twenty-first century in order to be more appreciative of the internal political policies of each country.

"If a country has a democratic system, then I think it has the right to implement the policies that are accordance with the people in the country. The peoples aspirations had been expressed, and then there has been a change in government in accordance with the wishes of the people," the ambassador noted in an interview with ANTARA News.

The Indonesian government will organize a commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference and the 10th anniversary of the New Asian African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) in April 2015.

The Indonesian government will invite 109 world leaders and 25 international organizations to attend the events.

One of the main issues to be discussed during the commemoration includes the independence of Palestine.

Ambassador Anoja also stated that Sri Lanka has been a supporter of Palestinian independence.

"Sri Lanka is fully behind Palestines aspiration to become free and independent. We would like to see peace in the Middle East," the ambassador stressed.

The Sri Lankan government is of the viewpoint that a peaceful settlement must be worked out to solve the problem.
