Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Anti-Corruption People Movement (GMPK) has urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to speed up the legal process of Commissioner General Budi Gunawan who has been named a suspect in an alleged corruption case.

In a press statement made available to Antara here on Tuesday, the GMPK appealed to the KPK to accelerate the legal process of Budi Gunawan who was allegedly involved in suspicious transactions when he was the head of career development and the deputy for human resources during the period between 2003 and 2006 and also held other positions.

The KPK has charged him for violating several articles in the corruption law, which carries a jail sentence of 4-20 years or life imprisonment.

It was also revealed in the press statement that the fit and proper test conducted by the House of Representatives on Budi Gunawan was a step that was not wise, not good, and was carried out in a hurry.

According to the statement, the Houses approval regarding the proposed appointment of Budi Gunawan as national police chief was ironic, considering the fact that the KPK had named him a suspect.

Therefore, the GMPK rejected Budi Gunawans nomination as police chief and urged the KPK to speed up the investigation process related to his alleged corruption case.
