Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) is awaiting President Joko Widodo to inaugurate Commissioner General Budi Gunawan as national police chief in the next two weeks.

"President Joko Widodo stated he would postpone the inauguration of the new national police chief when he announced Deputy Police Chief Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti as acting police chief," Chief of the House Commission III Aziz Syamsudin announced here on Thursday.

The DPR has approved the nomination of Commissioner General Budi Gunawan for the post of national police chief at a plenary meeting held recently.

Aziz said President Joko Widodo only postponed the inauguration of the police chief. This does not mean that he will not inaugurate Commissioner General Budi Gunawan as national police chief.

"The House Commission III gives him two weeks to inaugurate him," he remarked.

President Jokowi issued two decrees on Friday (January 16): one dismissing General Sutarman as national police chief and the other appointing Deputy Police Chief Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti as acting national police chief.

The decision was taken after National Police Chief hopeful Commissioner General Budi Gunawan, despite the Parliaments approval, was named a graft suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in connection with certain rewards that he allegedly received through suspicious transactions.
