Later, we will try to follow it up."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The House of Representatives (DPR) plans to meet President Joko Widodo on next Monday (February 2) to discuss the appointment of national police chief, House speaker Setya Novanto noted here on Friday.

"Later, on Monday, there will be a consultative meeting between the DPR leadership and the president. Later, we will try to follow it (the problem) up," he remarked.

Until now, I have not received a letter from the president with regard to the proposal of the new national police chief, he stated.

Setya was optimistic that the people will show patience regarding the presidents decision in connection with the problem.

"Let us just be patient because it is the prerogative of the president. Let us just wait for what the president will decide," he said.

House deputy speaker Fadli Zon stated that the meeting between the DPR leadership and the president on Monday afternoon will be held at the state palace.

Various issues will be discussed in the meeting including the relations between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the National Police as well as PT Freeport, he remarked.

"We do not talk about individuals but about the DPRs task," he added.

The independent team formed by the president to provide recommendations on the dispute between the police and KPK had already carried out its task and presented its recommendations to the president on Wednesday.

In their recommendations, they, among several others, had advised the president to ensure that all law enforcement officials must resign or must not hold any post after they are named suspects.

They also advised the president to not induct the current national police chief candidate as he has been named a suspect by the KPK and consider proposing a new candidate, so that the police can have a definitive chief immediately.

The team of experts also proposed that the president should prevent any effort to criminalize any law enforcement official, both in the police force, the KPK, and the general public.

The president has also been advised to order the police and the KPK to uphold the code of ethics and act against anyone found violating them.

The fifth recommendation was that the president must reaffirm his commitment to corruption eradication and the rule of the law in line with the public demand.
