Next year, we will report about our work."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Ministry of Public Works and Peoples Housing is preparing a national report for the International Habitat Conference to be held in Ecuador in 2016.

"This event is organized every 20 years. The last conference in 1996 discussed seven commitments. Next year, we will report about our work," Directorate General of Cipta Karya at the ministry Imam S. Ernawi noted here on Wednesday.

The seven commitments are providing proper housing for the people, providing sustainable settlements, and empowering the public to participate, among several others.

Other commitments are ensuring gender equality, enhancing international relations, and supervising the progress of commitments in each country.

Imam remarked that Indonesia will host the regional meeting related to the regional development in Jakarta in October 2015.

According to Imam, all stakeholders, including the people and private sectors, should be involved in achieving the targets to provide good sanitation facilities and open access to clean water along with improving the living conditions in slum areas.

As per data obtained in 2014 from the ministry, 70 percent of the people had access to clean water and 61.04 percent were able to avail good sanitation facilities, while urban slums occupied an area of 10 percent.
