All DPR members at the meeting unanimously agreed to name Haiti as the country`s new national police chief.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The House of Representatives (DPR) in a plenary session led by Deputy Speaker Fadli Zon here on Thursday approved Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti as the new national police chief.

All DPR members at the meeting unanimously agreed to name Haiti as the countrys new national police chief.

At the meeting, the chairman of the Houses Commission III, Aziz Syamsuddin, reported the process of the fit-and-proper test on the police chief candidate.

He noted that the process began with the reading out of President Joko Widodos letter on March 23, 2015, on Haitis nomination as national police chief candidate at a House plenary session.

Following Haitis nomination, Aziz explained, the House Commission III conducted a hearing with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Financial Transactions Analysis and Reporting Center. It also held a hearing with the National Police Commission on April 14, besides receiving inputs from the University of Indonesias Students Council on April 15 and visiting Haitis residence.

He remarked that at the plenary session in April, there was a debate whether President Joko Widodos earlier letter nominating Commissioner General Budi Gunawan as the sole candidate for police chief should be revoked or not before processing Haitis candidacy.

He pointed out that the faction chairman agreed that the DPRs leadership should first revoke the presidents earlier letter.

"After that we conducted the fit-and-proper test on Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti from 10 A.M. to 12 noon on Thursday," he stated.

President Joko Widodo decided to cancel Commissioner General Budi Gunawans candidacy for national police chief after he was named corruption suspect by the KPK despite the DPR approving his candidacy. He later named Badrodin Haiti, who is also the national deputy chief, as the new candidate.

After Gunawan filed a suit against his status as suspect, the court ruled illegitimate the KPKs decision naming him.(*)
