"There are internal and external threats to stability, and they must be addressed jointly by all parties," Jokowi said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, has called on all parties to work together to address the threats to national and regional stability.

"There are internal and external threats to stability, and they must be addressed jointly by all parties," President Jokowi stated during an exclusive interview with ANTARA at the Merdeka Palace here on Monday.

Jokowi noted that the potential of internal and external threats should be addressed jointly because if a country is internally safe but its regional stability is under threat, it will affect the concerned country.

"Both internal and external threats can affect the economic development of a country. No matter how good a country is, but if its external stability is disturbed, it will also certainly affect the country," he remarked.

The head of state pointed out that radical movements, terrorism, and narcotics are the current regional threats.

"Many countries are being affected by the ideology of radicalism and extremism, but we are able to cope with it by following a different approach than other countries," the president affirmed.

He emphasized that Indonesia is a moderate Muslim country that certainly did not compromise with the violence associated with terrorism and extremism.

Jokowi stated that the success achieved by the Indonesian Government in reducing the radical movement in the country cannot be separated from the support of all parties, including from religious mass organizations and the public.

He pointed out that the stability in the country and the region can contribute to good development and economic growth as internal and external stability is mutually beneficial.

At the Jakarta Convention Center, the president is scheduled to open the Asian-African Business Summit as part of the 60th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, President Jokowi is also scheduled to inaugurate the Asian-African Summit that will be attended by 34 heads of state/government and the delegates from other Asian-African countries.(*)
