Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The counterterrorism squad of the police, Densus 88, have arrested Ambo Ece (36), wanted for alleged terror activities, from Bulutironge, Wajo district, South Sulawesi.

"It is true. An arrest has been made by Densus 88 in the district of Wajo. Some 14 Densus 88 members were involved in the operation," South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi Police Command Spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Andi Masmini said here on Tuesday.

Ambo Ece entered the polices list of wanted persons as a member of the Santoso group, he stated, adding an investigation was going on.

Based on information, Ambo Ece had been involved in terror activities, including the killings of First Adjunct Inspector Sudirman and Brigadier Andi Sapa, who were members of the Poso Resort Police Command in Tamanjeka, Poso, Central Sulawesi.

Embo Ece is also a member of the East Indonesia Mujahidin group led by Daeng Koro (he was killed recently in a fire fight) and Santoso who is still at large.

Ece was involved in a training program conducted by the group in Walenrang, Luwu, South Sulawesi, and Poso in Central Sulawesi.

The Wajo resident was arrested at around 6.30 A.M. local time.

Meanwhile, Wajo Resort Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Masrur confirmed the arrest but declined to give more details about it.

"It is not in our authority to issue a statement on it. Our task is only coordinating," he stressed.(*)
