Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo along with other ASEAN heads of state and delegations attended a gala dinner held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center on Sunday ahead of the ASEAN Summit to be opened on Monday.

The Indonesian delegation attending the dinner included Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel and Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said in his speech that the 26th ASEAN Summit would focus its discussions on realization of the ASEAN Economic Community (MEA) to realize effective government and improve the peoples welfare, empowerment of womens and younger generations roles and opening opportunities for all.

Najib said various kinds of cooperation have been signed and various kinds of statement, communication and declaration have also been made for the advancement and infrastructure development for regional integrity.

After attending the dinner, President Joko Widodo would also attend the opening of the 26th ASEAN Summit at the same location on Monday.

After the opening ceremony President Joko Widodo is scheduled to return home and Vice President would take over to follow the following programs.

The 26th ASEAN Summit would be staged in two sessions with a plenary in Kuala Lumpur and a retreat in Langkawai, Kedah.

On the sidelines of the summit the ASEAN heads of state and government are scheduled to meet with representatives from the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ABAC), ASEAN Youth Representatives and Civil Society Organizations (CSO).

The heads of state/government are also invited to attend the 12th ASEAN Leadership Forum in Kuala Lumpur.

Apart from the ASEAN Summit, the heads of state/government from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippine East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) and Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT). ***2***
