"Since they (the labors) do not violate the law, they may hold demonstrations without completely occupying roads and without creating any damage. Do not spoil and do not deter others," Kalla said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla has urged demonstrators preparing massive rallies to mark International Labor Day on Friday (May 1) not to destroy public facilities or harm other people.

"Since they (the labors) do not violate the law, they may hold demonstrations without completely occupying roads and without creating any damage. Do not spoil and do not deter others," Jusuf Kalla, better known as JK, stated.

On the eve of International Labor Day (May Day), the Joko Widodo-JK government guaranteed wider work opportunities for Indonesian workers.

In addition to stepping up laborers welfare, the government will also strive to provide work for more laborers.

"Of course, (the government) will ensure laborers welfare with fair wages and better education, health, and housing facilities," the vice president explained.

Earlier, President Joko Widodo hailed workers plan to hold rallies on International Labor Day on May 1 and assured the public not to worry about it.

"Do not worry about the rallies that will be held on May 1. It is just an expression of workers happiness," he said while launching the one-million houses program, including for workers, here on Wednesday.

He noted that based on reports, several labor organizations are planning to conduct rallies, including a march from Hotel Indonesia roundabout to Merdeka Palace, on May 1.

"It is alright. What is important is to remain peaceful and orderly," he remarked at the ceremony, which was also attended by, among others, Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri, Chief of the Indonesia Sejahtera (Welfare) Workers Union Andi Gani Nenawea, and Chief of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions Said Iqbal.

President Joko Widodo stated that the government is seriously developing houses for workers.

Andi Gani Nenawea, meanwhile, assured that the May 1 rallies will be peaceful and orderly.(*)
