Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Three Taiwanese investors have voiced their interest to make Indonesia their hub for manufacturing vessel spare parts and consumption goods in Southeast Asia, Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Chairman Franky Sibarani stated.

They are part of the 16 Taiwanese companies that have committed to invest US$400 million in Indonesia, Sibarani noted in a press statement made available to Antara here on Thursday.

"At a recent meeting, the representatives pointed out that the three companies view Indonesia as a manufacturing base for halal products intended for markets in Asia and the Middle East," he affirmed.

They also vowed to support Indonesias vision to develop its maritime sector by expressing their interest to manufacture various types of ships and to transfer expertise to the local workers, he remarked.

"We hope they will be able to follow up on their interest by seeking the required investment permit from the BKPM," he pointed out.

Taiwan is one of the main investing nations in Indonesia, with total investment reaching US$1.5 billion over the past five years.

About 98 percent of the funds are invested in the manufacturing sector, such as export-oriented and technology-based industries.
