Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesia National Polices Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) on Wednesday questioned Jakarta Governor Basuki T. Purnama as a witness in an alleged case of corruption related to procurement of 49 packages of uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

"I come to undergo questioning as a witness in the case against Alex Usman," he told the press at the National Police Headquarters here.

Ahok, as Basuki T. Purnama is popularly called, said his testimonies in the capacity as Jakarta governor are necessary to complete the dossier of Usman who has been named as a suspect in the case.

"If the dossier is to be handed over to the court, it must be equipped with data and information from the person who knows well about the issue. One of the persons considered capable of clarifying the issue is me in the capacity as governor. Therefore, I come here to ensure that the case will be brought to justice soon," he said.

Ahok and his personal staffers arrived at the National Police Headquarters at 10.25 a.m. Shortly after speaking to the press, he headed straight to the Bareskrim building.

The National Police Headquarters has named Alex Usman and Zaenal Soleman as suspects in the alleged case of corruption.

Usman is former head of the facility and infrastructure section at the West Jakarta secondary education office, while Soleman is former chief of the Central Jakarta secondary eduction office.

In the alleged case of corruption involving Rp245 billion in funds, both Usman and Soleman acted as commitment-making officials.
