On the day President Joko Widodo officially installed his new cabinet members, the weakening of rupiah`s exchange rate against the US dollar continued.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo reshuffled his working cabinet here on Wednesday by installing six figures, including Sofyan Djalil who replaced Andrinof Chaniago as the National Development Planning Minister/National Development Planning Board (Bappenas).

Five other figures, officially sworn in by President Joko Widodo at the State Palace here, are Luhut Pandjaitan, Darmin Nasution, Pramono Anung, Rizal Ramli, and Thomas Lembong.

Luhut Panjaitan, a retired general and presidential chief of staff, replaced Tedjo Edhy Purdijanto as the coordinating political, legal and security affairs minister while Darmin Nasution, former Bank Indonesia governor, took the position of Sofyan Djalil as coordinating economic minister.

Rizal Ramli, former coordinating economic minister and finance minister under the President Abdurrahman Wahid government, replaced Indroyono Susilo as the coordinating maritime affairs minister.

Pramono Anung, senior politician of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), replaced Andi Widjajanto as the cabinet secretary, and Thomas Lembong, former official of the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (BPPN), took the position of Rachmat Gobel as trade minister.

On the day President Joko Widodo officially installed his new cabinet members, the weakening of rupiahs exchange rate against the US dollar continued.

In response to this trend, BI Governor Agus Martowardojo said the ongoing weakening of the rupiah over the past few weeks has overshot.

Based on the rate set by BI in the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR), rupiah was traded at Rp13,758 per US dollar in Wednesday morning session or weakened 217 points from Rp13,541 on Tuesday.(*)
