Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Maintenance of security stability is one of the ways in which development can be ensured, according to President Joko Widodo.

"The keys to good implementation of efforts towards development are security and political stability. It is important for the long run," he said here on Wednesday, in an interview with ANTARA News Agency, Televisi Republik Indonesia and Radio Republik Indonesia, in connection with the upcoming commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the countrys independence.

He added that Indonesias independence was a gift from God that must always be used as a platform to launch big projects to advance the nation.

"Independence was a blessing given to us by God and was won through the sacrifice of heroes. Current political, economic and security stability are good. It indicates that it is the right time to carry out our big projects to develop Indonesia," he affirmed.

The head of state also pointed out that ensuring border security, which can be stepped up through the development of border regions, was part of maintaining security stability.

"I personally inspected the border checkpoints in Entikong, Atambua and Motoain. We found that conditions in border regions are below those in their neighboring areas. My order to the ministers concerned is clear---we want better conditions in these places," he stated.

Development at the Entikong checkpoint in Kalimantan has started and will hopefully be completed next year, Jokowi, as the president is also known, added.

"It is not about physical development. When we go to border regions, we can compare them. We must feel that we are better," he remarked.

Jokowi further noted that funding for the development of border regions has been made available, but it will take time to see the results as all processes will be followed.

Moreover, he expressed optimism that the development of the Entikong checkpoint will be completed next year, along with the development of roads, and quarantine and immigration service facilities.(*)
