Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo expressed his views on the 70th anniversary of Indonesias independence, while speaking with state-owned ANTARA News Agency, TVRI television station and RRI radio station on Wednesday.

During the interview, Jokowi, as the president is fondly called, expressed his views on political and food sovereignties as well as on the importance of nurturing cultural sovereignty.

The head of state stressed the importance of the development of human resources and the optimization of the maritime sector as the main supporters of the countrys advancement.

"I call on all people of Indonesia to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Indonesian independence. After that, lets work, work and work," he remarked.

Indonesia will celebrate its 70th Independence Day on August 17 next week.

Jokowi is scheduled to deliver a state of the nation address on August 14 at the parliament building, prior to the celebration of Indonesias 70th Independence Day on August 17.

Minister/State Secretary Pratikno sent letters dated August 7 on this subject to the parliament, Peoples Consultative Assembly, and Regional Representatives Council, as well as to ministers, governors and other high-ranking officials, the state secretariat said on its official website on Monday.

The state of the nation address will be delivered on Friday, August 14, at 8:25 a.m. local time.

At 2:25 p.m. in the afternoon, the head of state will deliver a finance note on the draft state budget of 2016 in the plenary meeting of the parliament.

On the morning of August 17, Jokowi will lead a flag hoisting ceremony to commemorate the countrys Independence Day at Merdeka Palace.

Moreover, Pratikno told the public to hoist Indonesias red and white flag for five days, from August 14 to August 18, to mark the nations 70th anniversary.(*)
